Developer Devran Cosmo Uenal has developed PS5X, an adaptation of the PC emulator KytyPS5, which allows the Xbox Series X to run PlayStation 5 software. This project functions by utilizing the shared AMD hardware architecture found in both consoles.

The emulator acts as a code translator, employing artificial intelligence to convert Vulkan graphics instructions into DirectX, as the Xbox console lacks native support for the former. Currently, the software can execute specific titles such as Quake II, GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion, with Quake II reaching frame rates between 25 and 45fps.

Significant technical barriers exist, as the emulator requires the Xbox Developer Mode, which restricts available memory to 5GB. This limitation prevents the execution of major modern PS5 releases, which typically require 13.5GB of memory. Without system-level changes, this constraint remains insurmountable.

Uenal characterizes PS5X as a research project with no public release planned. Users are cautioned against potential malware, as fraudulent entities are using similar names like PCS5X to distribute malicious software.
