According to a report from Fortune magazine, Microsoft is developing two new gaming devices scheduled for release over the next two years. The company reportedly plans to launch a new generation Xbox handheld during the 2027 holiday season, followed by a home console currently referred to as Project Helix for the 2028 holiday campaign.

Internal estimates cited by Fortune suggest the Project Helix console could retail between 1200 and 1800 dollars. This pricing reflects the ongoing impact of rising costs for RAM and storage components, a crisis that industry experts suggest may persist until 2028. While Microsoft could potentially subsidize the hardware to lower the consumer price, historical subsidies typically range only between 100 and 200 dollars.

The report highlights that these hardware plans were discussed in a profile of Asha Sharma, the new head of Xbox. Regarding the upcoming handheld, it remains unclear if the device will be an original Microsoft creation or a potential collaboration similar to the existing ASUS ROG Xbox Ally.

These pricing challenges are not unique to Microsoft, as analysts suggest that next-generation hardware from other manufacturers may also exceed the 1000 dollar threshold. Rising component costs have already affected the current generation of consoles, and the industry continues to navigate these significant economic pressures.
