Microsoft has initiated an email campaign targeting Xbox Series X|S owners who have not utilized their hardware recently. The company is suggesting that these users trade in their inactive consoles at Best Buy, a move confirmed as genuine by the manufacturer.
The trade-in program offers users up to $375 for a Series X in good condition, provided it includes the necessary cables and controller. For the Series S, the maximum value is listed at $200. Compensation for these devices is issued in the form of a Best Buy eGift Card, with the current campaign restricted to the United States.
This initiative appears to be the trade-in program Microsoft discussed in June alongside announcements of price increases. Those adjustments raised the cost of the 1 TB Series X to $799.99 and the 512 GB Series S to $499.99. Following these changes, Circana reported that US hardware sales reached an all-time low by August.
While the program emphasizes convenience, owners should consider market alternatives. Used Series X consoles have recently fetched prices exceeding $500 on eBay. Furthermore, global stock remains constrained in several regions, and industry expectations suggest that the upcoming November launch of GTA 6 may further deplete available retail inventory.
