Speculation regarding the cost of the upcoming Xbox hardware, currently referred to as the Helix family of devices, has intensified. Recent rumors suggest the primary device could be priced exceeding $1200, surpassing previous discussions that estimated costs around $1000.

Mike Ybarra, former vice president of Xbox Studios and former Blizzard CEO, addressed these rumors on the social network X. He expressed strong skepticism, stating that a console is intended for the masses and requires a lower price point, ideally between $399 and $499, to be viable.

Ybarra argued that a device priced at such high levels would fail to sell significant units. He suggested that it would be better to keep current hardware like the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X until market pricing normalizes, noting that existing consoles already satisfy 99% of the audience.

The critique emphasizes that high-end pricing contradicts the traditional purpose of consoles, which is to provide accessible entertainment. Ybarra also highlighted that ongoing optimizations, such as the implementation of AMD FSR 4.1, remain valuable for current platforms.
