According to a report from Fortune, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is planning three additional rounds of staff layoffs. These reductions are reportedly scheduled to occur this month, in November, and in January.
These potential cuts follow an organizational reset announced by Sharma in July, which included plans to lay off 3,200 employees throughout Microsoft’s 2027 fiscal year. This initiative previously saw 1,600 positions cut in July and approximately 260 employees laid off in September.
The restructuring efforts have already resulted in Double Fine and Compulsion Games transitioning to independent status. Additionally, there is uncertainty regarding the future of Ninja Theory, as the report suggests the studio may face closure.
While speculation persists regarding a potential sale or spin-off of the Xbox division, Microsoft leadership has denied these claims. Both Judson Althoff and Asha Sharma have publicly stated that the business is not for sale.
