Key information
Brandon Stirrup, a senior business strategy manager at Xbox, recently deactivated his X account following a series of posts advocating for the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence in game development. Stirrup stated that he was willing to accept potential professional consequences for his public stance on the technology.
In a thread initiated on October 18, Stirrup claimed to have created a game in approximately three hours of active work using AI tools. He argued that developers who fail to integrate AI into their strategies are planning for a future that does not exist, asserting that anyone can build games using simple prompts.
Stirrup explicitly confirmed that Xbox utilizes AI, suggesting that the company and the broader industry should move past the reluctance to acknowledge its use. An internal source at Xbox informed PC Gamer that Stirrup chose to delete his account due to the high volume of responses he received following his statements.
The broader industry continues to navigate AI integration, with companies like Epic Games retooling for AI acceleration. Xbox has also launched an Xbox Labs program to explore emerging technologies, including AI, as part of its 2026 business strategy.
