World of Warcraft: Forever is currently experiencing significant popularity, with Blizzard developers reporting that its beta phase is breaking records. This success stands in stark contrast to the retail version of the game, as the Midnight expansion appears to be facing a period of crisis.
Blizzard has maintained high levels of communication regarding Forever, utilizing weekly podcasts, forum posts, and frequent updates to address balance and bugs. Conversely, the Midnight expansion recently launched its 12.1.5 content update on October 13, which introduced new story quests, a single-boss raid, and a new mega delve known as a labyrinth.
The 12.1.5 update arrived in a bug-riddled state, causing significant frustration for players. Issues included failures to earn credit for boss kills, inability to collect rewards, and a critical bug where players fell through the floor of the final boss arena in the Kindo'jan labyrinth. Additionally, players reported that the delve companion Valeera struggled with boss mechanics and died too quickly.
While a hotfix on October 16 addressed major bugs like the floor-falling issue, labyrinths still lack save points. This contradicts Blizzard's initial implication that players could tackle these challenges piece by piece over time, rather than being forced to complete them in a single session.
