Wolves Esports successfully opened their VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign on Wednesday 21 October with a 2-0 victory over A Team in Shanghai. This win advances the Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned organization into the quarter-finals of the event, which serves as a critical pathway for teams to secure a spot in VCT China for 2027.
The stakes are significant for Wolves, as the organization is among four current VCT China partners—alongside FunPlus Phoenix, Nova Esports, and Titan Esports Club—that lost their partner status for the 2027-2028 cycle. Consequently, the region will reduce its number of partners from ten to eight, making the Threshold tournament a vital opportunity for teams to regain entry as guest participants.
The tournament features thirteen teams competing at THE HUB Performing Arts Center. The competition follows an Ascension-style format, where the winner of the Week 1 bracket earns a 2027 VCT China place. Matches are played as best-of-three series, with the exception of the grand finals, which are best-of-five.
Wolves, featuring a roster of Spring, yosemite, Deryeon, aluba, and glacier, now prepare for a quarter-final match against KeepBest Gaming on Thursday 22 October. This encounter offers the team an immediate chance to avenge a recent 0-2 loss in the China Evolution Series Act 3 2026.
