Key information
Wizards of the Coast has officially refused to grant voluntary recognition to the union drive organized by its Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X teams. Instead, the company stated that staff will participate in a secret-ballot election managed by the National Labor Relations Board.
The union, known as United Wizards of the Coast-CWA, announced this development on October 14. In an internal email obtained by Wargamer, the company explicitly stated it is not neutral regarding unionization, expressing a preference for direct communication with employees rather than working through a union representative.
The labor group is seeking improvements in job security, promotion pathways, and fair compensation. Additionally, the union is advocating for an enforceable policy regarding generative AI, citing concerns that leadership has prioritized such technology despite team objections. They are also requesting ownership rights for work created by employees during their personal time.
Wizards of the Coast maintains that it will respect the final outcome of the upcoming election. The company highlighted existing benefits, including subsidized medical coverage, five weeks of paid time off, and recent salary increases, as part of its current employment package.
