Rockstar Games is set to launch GTA 6 in November, featuring a central relationship between protagonists Jason and Lucia. The game includes mechanics such as holding hands, kissing, and going on dates, with the couple's bond potentially evolving based on player interactions via in-game mobile phones.

Players can choose how much they engage with this dynamic. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson noted that while players act as stewards of the pair's relationship, the level of involvement is optional. If players choose not to pursue the romance, the characters will still support each other during gameplay.

The depth of these mechanics has sparked debate regarding real-life relationships. A September YouGov poll of 4,000 British adults found that 6% consider virtual dating to be cheating, while 19% expressed discomfort with the practice. Women were found to be more likely to view these interactions negatively than men.

This discourse follows reports of social media backlash, where some individuals suggested that the game's relationship features could be grounds for breaking up. Conversely, many players have criticized the notion that digital interactions constitute betrayal, citing long-standing precedents in titles like The Sims.
