Microsoft is testing a potential replacement for its dual-menu system by introducing a new, discrete Windows Settings application on the Microsoft Store. Spotted by Windows Latest, this project, codenamed 'Project Odeon,' aims to consolidate functionality currently split between the traditional Control Panel and the existing Settings interface.
The application utilizes a modular design where a base executable calls upon specific helper files to manage tasks like renaming a PC or adjusting time zones. While the interface mirrors the standard Settings menu, it includes more granular technical details, such as monitor display paths and SDR white levels, within the Display settings page.
As an early test build, the software currently exhibits instability, including greyed-out options and unfinished pages. Accessing the app reportedly requires Windows 11 build 26100 or newer, with potential additional requirements such as Insider build participation or specific regional availability.
If fully implemented, moving Settings to the Microsoft Store could allow for faster feature updates independent of the standard Windows Update cycle. This development reinforces Microsoft's long-standing strategy to migrate all legacy Control Panel features into the modern Settings environment, signaling a continued shift away from the older interface.
