Recent reports suggest that Lucasfilm is actively seeking a development partner for a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3. While Electronic Gaming Monthly’s Quarterman column claims Disney has significant plans for the series, the project does not appear to be in full production yet.
Conflicting rumors have identified various studios as potential candidates. While some sources suggest DICE and Bungie are circling the project, Bulkhead boss Joe Brammer claims on X that DICE and Respawn are collaborating on the title. The feasibility of Bungie’s involvement remains questioned due to their current focus on Marathon and Destiny.
Industry observers note that if DICE leads development, the team would differ significantly from the one behind Battlefront 2, as many original members have since departed for studios like Embark. Furthermore, any potential development must navigate the high quality standards maintained by Lucasfilm Games.
The franchise has a complex history, including a cancelled project from Free Radical Design around 2008 and the 2017 launch of Battlefront 2, which faced significant backlash regarding loot boxes. Despite these past challenges, Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly recently affirmed that large-scale titles like Battlefront remain an essential component of their long-term strategy.
