Sony has officially announced that the Xperia 10 VI will no longer receive the Android 17 update. This decision contradicts the company's initial promise of three major operating system upgrades made when the device launched with Android 14.
The manufacturer cited a detailed technical assessment as the reason for this change. Sony stated that limitations regarding the device's storage configuration prevent the phone from supporting an Android 17 experience that meets their internal standards.
While major OS updates are concluding, Sony confirmed that security patches will continue for four years, lasting until June 2028. The company emphasized that this storage issue is specific to the Xperia 10 VI and does not affect update commitments for other models.
Despite these assurances, the report notes that the future technical requirements for Android remain unknown. Consequently, the announcement has raised questions regarding the reliability of Sony's update promises for its mobile hardware.
