Developer Double Stallion released a significant update for the Surfpunk demo on October 20. This action RPG, currently in development for PC via Steam, features a "surf and slash" gameplay loop where players explore a flooded world to battle monsters and collect resources. The game supports both solo play and online cooperative sessions for up to four players.
Players take on the role of Raiders, utilizing motorized boards called Rushboards to navigate procedurally generated islands. Combat involves choosing from various weapons, including swords, pistols, hybrid anchors, and guitars. During expeditions, players can craft items like bombs or ladders using gathered resources and must tow loot-filled transport ships while navigating the environment.
The latest update introduces a revamped blacksmithing system, 32 new mods, four additional skills, and three new cutscenes. Quality-of-life improvements include easier lobby joining via codes and increased movement speed for solo players. Furthermore, users who play the demo on October 20 or October 21 will unlock exclusive cosmetic items as an early participant reward.
After completing objectives, players must escape the area by riding tsunamis to return to their mothership. This hub allows for weapon upgrades, skill acquisition, and character customization through various NPCs. While the demo is currently available on Steam, Double Stallion has not yet announced a specific release date for the full early access version of the game.
