Key information
Developer Unknown Worlds is preparing a significant update for the survival game Subnautica 2, which creative director Anthony Gallegos describes as the most substantial patch since the game's release. This update introduces a new region characterized as one of the scariest environments the team has ever created, blending dark and threatening elements with beauty.
The update expands gameplay with the addition of the Tadpole chassis, a frog-like vehicle described as a cousin to the original Prawn Suit that provides players with submersible arms and legs. Additionally, players will gain access to new biomods, extra plot content for both colonists and creatures, and a new round room design for base building.
Mechanical adjustments include a quality-of-life improvement allowing players to dash while wearing fins without needing a specific biomod. The Collector Leviathan is also receiving new behavioral tricks, though the developer has not yet provided a specific release date for these features.
While the developer is moving forward with these additions, the author expresses frustration with the marketing terminology used to describe this phase of development. Despite this, the update aims to build upon the game's existing foundation of exploration and survival.
