The October 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest is experiencing a significant influx of titles utilizing artificial intelligence. This trend has sparked calls from the community for Valve to implement a dedicated filtering system to help users identify AI-assisted projects.
Data indicates a sharp rise in the prevalence of generative AI within the platform's showcase. While approximately 20% of games featured in June utilized such technology, that figure has climbed to over 36% this October. Out of 7145 total games highlighted, 2595 incorporate some form of AI-generated content.
Although Valve mandates that studios disclose the use of AI, players report that some developers fail to provide accurate information. This lack of transparency, combined with fears regarding intellectual property theft and the rapid cloning of ideas, has caused considerable anxiety among independent developers.
Concerns over potential plagiarism have already impacted the event's lineup. Specifically, the creators of Drunken Goddess Reflux opted to cancel their public demo for the festival, choosing instead to conduct testing through private channels.
