The October edition of Steam Next Fest has launched, offering players access to various demos and upcoming PC titles. However, the event has sparked significant community backlash due to a perceived surge in games utilizing generative artificial intelligence.
Players are expressing concerns that titles created with tools like ChatGPT or Claude often feature low-quality programming, art, and voice acting. Critics argue that these projects, sometimes developed in mere days, threaten to overwhelm the platform with low-quality content, making it difficult to discover high-quality games.
Because Valve currently mandates that developers disclose the use of AI in their store listings, users are calling for the implementation of a filtering system. This feature would allow players to hide titles containing AI-generated content from their discovery queues and search results.
The current Steam Next Fest is scheduled to conclude on Monday, October 26, at 19:00 Spanish time. While Valve continues to refine its store discovery features, the community remains vocal about the need for better tools to manage the influx of AI-assisted software.
