Lucasfilm Games is shifting its development strategy to incorporate more independent studios alongside traditional AAA partners. VP Douglas Reilly confirmed that while large-scale projects remain essential, the company is actively seeking diverse opportunities to explore various genres within the Star Wars universe.
Recent releases demonstrate this new direction, including Bit Reactor's turn-based tactical title Star Wars Zero Company and Fuse Games' roguelite racer Star Wars Galactic Racer. Critics and fans have praised these titles, with the latter specifically noted for its slick presentation and the character Biddy Blas.
The company prioritizes high-quality experiences and specific fantasies over strict publisher size. Reilly noted that even newer studios can qualify if they possess experienced staff, citing Fuse Games—founded by former Criterion developers—as a prime example of this approach.
Looking ahead, Lucasfilm Games intends to remain flexible in its partnerships. Reilly suggested that future studio collaborations may surprise audiences, as the firm moves away from relying solely on a top five publisher model to deliver its gaming content.
