Sony Group President and CEO Hiroki Totoki and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently shared their perspectives on artificial intelligence during the Paley International Summit. Totoki emphasized that AI will not replace human developers, asserting that creativity remains a uniquely human trait.
While Totoki encourages staff to utilize AI tools, he stressed the importance of protecting the rights of artists and creators. Zelnick offered a different angle, suggesting that while AI itself won't replace developers, individuals who fail to adopt these technologies might be superseded by those who do.
Zelnick characterized AI as a collection of backward-looking datasets and compute models. He argued that true creativity is forward-looking and produces unexpected results, citing the success of the film Home Alone as an example of an outcome that algorithms could not have predicted.
Both companies currently integrate AI into their workflows, though Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 does not feature AI. Despite these implementations, the industry faces ongoing pushback from players and developers concerned about job security, legal implications, and the potential degradation of creative quality.
