The creator of Solo Leveling, Chugong, recently shared reflections on his original narrative choices, specifically regarding the character Goto Ryuji. Despite the hunter's potential to be a formidable figure, his role in the story was significantly shorter than many readers anticipated.
Chugong admitted that had he anticipated the series' eventual popularity in Japan, he would have written Goto Ryuji to be stronger and more impressive. The author explained that he prioritized showcasing the overwhelming power of the enemies the hunters faced, which ultimately limited the exploration of the Japanese leader's capabilities.
The character's most notable moment occurred during the Jeju Island Arc, where he faced the creature Beru. His defeat served to establish the extreme danger posed by the antagonists, though this narrative necessity left little room to develop Goto's character further.
These comments represent a retrospective reflection rather than an official revision of the story. While Chugong has expressed interest in returning to the Solo Leveling universe with a focus on Sung Jinwoo, no such continuation is confirmed.
