Aspyr has officially announced Shrek 2 Remastered, unveiling the title with a promotional trailer that mimics the cinematic marketing style of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 6. This project follows an earlier achievement leak and an Xbox Store listing that previously hinted at the game's existence.
The remaster updates the original action-adventure platformer, which was based on the 2004 DreamWorks Animation film. Players will once again navigate iconic locations like Shrek's swamp and the kingdom of Far Far Away while controlling characters such as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey to complete platforming challenges and combat.
Technical enhancements include 4K resolution, improved textures, upgraded cutscenes, and a refreshed user interface. New features consist of a Photo Mode, a customizable Cheat Mode, and the introduction of online cooperative play for up to four participants, expanding upon the original game's local multiplayer functionality.
Shrek 2 Remastered is scheduled for release on Nov. 10. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. This launch precedes the anticipated 2027 arrival of Shrek 5, allowing fans to revisit the franchise's history.
