During a Paley International Summit talk in New York, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick and Sony Group Corporation president Hiroki Totoki stated that artificial intelligence will not replace human creators in the entertainment industry. Both executives emphasized that while AI serves as a useful tool, it lacks the essential human capacity for true creativity.
Totoki noted that creativity is inherently human, though he encourages his staff to utilize AI technology appropriately while protecting the rights of artists and creators. Zelnick echoed this sentiment, noting that his division leaders tell staff they will not be replaced by AI, but rather by individuals who know how to effectively leverage the technology.
Zelnick argued that AI is fundamentally limited because it relies on datasets that look toward the past. He illustrated this by citing the unexpected success of the film Home Alone, which was initially considered a disaster after being dropped by Warner Bros. He concluded that because major hits are often unpredictable, data-driven models cannot reliably predict or generate such outcomes.
The role of AI in production remains a contentious topic across the industry. While some business strategists suggest the gaming sector is already heavily utilizing these tools, others, including Steam users, have expressed significant opposition toward content generated by artificial intelligence.
