Key information
The RTA in Japan Winter 2026 event, scheduled for December 25 to December 31, has announced its lineup, which includes the 2000 Dreamcast title Crazy Taxi. Runner Yutapon has initiated a search for live band members to perform the game's soundtrack during the event.
Yutapon reports that event organizers informed him that the original in-game music cannot be broadcast or played at the venue. This restriction likely stems from licensing issues, as previous re-releases of the game on Xbox 360 and PS3 had their soundtracks replaced.
The runner is currently seeking guitar, bass, and drum players to perform the music live, though he is also considering pre-recorded alternatives. This approach follows a precedent set at AGDQ 2025, where a volunteer band performed tracks like "All I Want" to compensate for similar music licensing limitations.
Yutapon notes that the plan is still under discussion with RTA in Japan organizers and could be canceled even if musicians are recruited. Meanwhile, the series is set to continue with the 2027 release of Crazy Taxi: World Tour.
