Experts at Digital Foundry have identified that the latest trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI appears to have addressed a persistent animation issue that has affected Rockstar Games titles for 18 years. This technical defect, known as animation stutter, has been present in the RAGE engine since Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008, as well as in GTA 5 and both Red Dead Redemption entries.
The animation stutter manifests as irregular movements or small hitches in character animations and camera pans, creating a visual effect similar to stop-motion. While this issue was observable in previous promotional videos for GTA 6, including gameplay previews, it was notably absent from the latest launch trailer despite the inclusion of numerous camera pans where the defect typically appears.
Digital Foundry notes that while this suggests a potential fix, it remains uncertain if the issue is fully resolved or if specific sequences were chosen to avoid displaying it. Rockstar has not officially confirmed a correction, and players will need to wait for the game's release to verify the performance improvements.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The title represents a significant evolution for the series, arriving over thirteen years after the launch of its predecessor.
