Riot Games has confirmed that League of Legends Classic, a recreation of an earlier version of the MOBA, will be removed at the conclusion of the current season. The developer stated that the mode will remain accessible until January 2027, after which it will be taken offline.

The decision follows a decline in active users, as the studio noted that most players have returned to other areas of the game. Despite its initial release in July, the mode failed to maintain a consistent player base, leading Riot to transition it into a potential limited-time event format for the future.

The mode faced criticism regarding its monetization, specifically the requirement to purchase retro skins via a battle pass or real-world currency. While the developers plan to refund cosmetic microtransactions in Riot Points, they acknowledged that sticking too closely to past mechanics may have hindered the overall experience.

Despite the upcoming closure, Riot confirmed that the release of planned champions like Volibear, Urgot, and Udyr will proceed as scheduled. The team intends to evaluate player feedback to determine how to improve future iterations of the mode.
