Developer 4J Studios revealed that its open-world survival sandbox title, Reforj, will launch a closed playtest on PC in Q1 2027. The announcement occurred during the Game Republic New Horizons conference, where Chris van der Kuyl and Joseph "Stampy" Garrett discussed the project's development trajectory.

The studio intends to keep the initial PC playtest invite-only to prioritize an optimized experience. While the specific platform for this PC release remains unconfirmed, 4J Studios plans to share further details later this year.

Garrett highlighted a unique community-driven development approach, noting that feedback from Discord is reviewed directly by CEO Patty Burns and lead designer Tom Fife. This process often results in weekly game updates. Currently, the title is accessible to testers via the Xbox Series X|S Insider Program, which provides a stable hardware environment for early bug reporting.

Technologically, the game utilizes the proprietary Elements Engine, which now features "Rixels." Creative director Brian Gomez explained that this new technology provides an alternative method for handling textures while significantly reducing memory usage.
