Data from Alinea Analytics highlights a substantial divide between physical and digital PlayStation 5 game sales throughout 2026. According to Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis, digital platforms currently maintain a 70/30 sales lead over physical media.
Resident Evil Requiem stands out as the top-selling physical title, with an estimated 1.3 million units sold, marking it as the only game to surpass the 1 million milestone. Other notable physical performers include 007 First Light at 873,000 units and Marvel's Wolverine at 799,000 units.
Elliott notes that first-party and Japan-centric titles often see higher physical engagement. Specifically, Capcom releases like Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword show nearly even splits between physical and digital sales, driven by strong demand within the Japanese market.
Physical copies account for 44.0% of Pragmata sales and 44.1% of Onimusha sales. Analysts attribute this trend to Japanese consumer culture, where a preference for physical media remains more pronounced than in Western markets, despite rising digital adoption.
