A recent report indicates that Microsoft's gaming division could hold a valuation of at least $100 billion. Sources suggest that various private equity firms have considered acquiring the Xbox brand, with some entities reportedly prepared to offer as much as $150 billion for the division.
According to The Information, these firms were only exploring possibilities and did not initiate formal negotiations with Microsoft. Fortune has further reported that internal discussions regarding potential scenarios, such as a spin-off, outside investment, or sale, occurred following Asha Sharma's appointment as Xbox CEO.
Despite these reports, CEO Asha Sharma has publicly dismissed the notion of a sale, stating that Xbox is not currently for sale. She emphasized that the company is focused on establishing the right operating models and partnerships to ensure future success.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has noted that the gaming division must improve its financial performance, citing a 3% profit margin. Following a strategic reset under Sharma, the company is evaluating its long-term trajectory, with speculation even surfacing regarding the potential pricing of future hardware.
