Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has introduced a challenging new difficulty tier called YOLO, which requires players to complete the entire campaign with only a single life. Failing at any point, whether through combat, environmental hazards, or accidental civilian casualties, forces a complete restart of the campaign.
To succeed, players like Reddit user Lost-Equivalent2352 emphasize cautious tactics, such as relying on AI teammates for kills and utilizing flashbangs or grenades. However, these strategies are risky in missions with civilians, where collateral damage results in an immediate game over. Hand-to-hand combat segments are also cited as particularly difficult, as failing a counter-attack ends the run.
Lost-Equivalent2352, who finished the mode in 20 hours, expressed the opinion that the difficulty is likely impossible to complete using a controller due to the need for precise long-distance recoil control. They noted that the mode cannot be played by selecting individual missions, requiring a full, uninterrupted playthrough.
Accessing YOLO requires first completing the campaign on Realism difficulty. Despite the significant effort involved, the reward is limited to a multiplayer Calling Card. The full game, including traditional multiplayer, launches on 23rd October for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
