F&C has announced that the horror adventure game Dead of the Brain, originally released in 1992 under the FairyTale brand, is coming to Steam. This title serves as the first entry in the PC98 Software Preservation Project, a collaboration with publisher FAKKU.
The story follows protagonist Cole, who is summoned by Dr. Cougar to witness the creation of a resurrection drug. The experiment goes awry when the revived subjects lose their personalities and transform into brain-hungry zombies, eventually overrunning the city. Players must fight to survive and prevent global catastrophe.
Gameplay combines point-and-click adventure mechanics with first-person shooting segments during zombie encounters, requiring players to defeat enemies within a time limit. The Steam version features upscaled pixel art and original FM synthesis music, with a soundtrack DLC also planned.
The full game is scheduled for release on PC via Steam on October 31 with Japanese language support. Additionally, a free trial version will be available for players starting October 20.
