Key information
The latest trailer for GTA 6 was captured on a PlayStation 5, prompting speculation regarding the use of Sony's new QSSR technology. However, Digital Foundry's analysis indicates that this upscaling feature is likely absent from the footage.
Rich Leadbetter of Digital Foundry observed that the game appears to utilize a 1440p base resolution. He argues that upscaling this to 4K via QSSR would place an excessive performance burden on the console hardware.
Leadbetter notes that QSSR requires approximately 4ms of processing time, which consumes over 10% of the 33ms frame budget. Given the existing image quality at 1440p, he suggests the performance cost may not be justified for this title.
The trailer might reflect an older build of the game, as Rockstar continues to implement changes before the scheduled release on November 19.
