Investment bank Citi recently issued a memo suggesting that a future entry in the Red Dead series could potentially launch between 2027 and 2028. This projection relies on the assumption that Rockstar Games' development costs for GTA 6 were lower than the rumored $1.5 billion figure.
Despite the bank's assessment, industry observers note that such a timeline would be highly unexpected. Rockstar historically maintains significant gaps between major releases, with previous titles like Red Dead Redemption and its sequel separated by eight years, while GTA 6 is slated for 2026.
Rockstar's current production strategy has shifted away from concurrent development. While the studio previously attempted to work on multiple projects simultaneously, it now focuses its collective network of teams on a single title at a time, as evidenced by the reallocation of staff during the creation of Red Dead Redemption II.
Future development capacity remains constrained by the anticipated long-term post-launch support for GTA 6. Although specific plans remain unannounced, the studio is expected to dedicate extensive resources to maintaining an online experience for the upcoming title for several years.
