Key information
On October 20, developer HIKO GAME released a demo for the 2D climbing action game Mount Lomyst. The title, which tasks players with searching for a missing grandmother on a snowy mountain, is being published by BACHI BACHI GAMES, a new indie label established by MyDearest Inc. Mount Lomyst serves as the label's inaugural project.
The game features a unique mechanic where players cannot jump. Instead, progress up the treacherous mountain relies entirely on using a grappling hook and wall climbing. Players must carefully manage limited stamina while navigating obstacles such as strong winds, crumbling platforms, and surfaces where the hook cannot attach. One mistake can result in sliding significantly down the mountain, requiring players to strategically determine their path.
HIKO GAME emphasizes a philosophy of subtraction, intentionally removing traditional mechanics like jumping to create a precise and tactile gameplay experience. The game's narrative is revealed through handwritten notes discovered during the ascent, complemented by simple visuals and environmental audio intended to evoke the solemn atmosphere of a snowy mountain.
Mount Lomyst received the Famitsu Award and the Game Makers Award at BitSummit PUNCH in May 2026. The demo is currently available on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest. While the game is confirmed for PC, the final release date remains unannounced as the developer continues work on the project.
