Developer Cold Symmetry has released the Rotten Autumn update for the soulslike action RPG Mortal Shell 2. This free content expansion is currently available for the title, which originally launched on August 20, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The update introduces 15 new dungeons for players to explore and adds a long-awaited photo mode. Additionally, the patch includes a new alternative soundtrack composed by Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ, 10 new Tarstones, and fresh Shell Shades for character customization. PC users also gain access to new Overkill graphical settings alongside general bug fixes.
In a previous review, the publication praised the game for being more inspired than its predecessor, noting it establishes its own identity despite its genre roots. While the game was lauded for its beautiful environments—ranging from white limestone cities to crimson groves—the review specifically lamented the initial absence of a photo mode, which is now addressed by this update.
Mortal Shell 2, which features an interconnected open world and a combat system without a traditional stamina bar, has seen a positive commercial reception. Following its release, the game reportedly sold over half a million units during its opening weekend.
