Key information
Digital Sun Games, the studio known for the Moonlighter series, has officially canceled public playtesting for its upcoming roguelike title, ReVamp. The developer cited significant concerns that providing a public build would lead to the game being reverse-engineered, cloned, and released by third parties before its scheduled launch.
The decision stems from the rapid emergence of AI-driven cloning tools, specifically following the release of Claude Opus 5.5. Marketing manager Israel Mallén noted that with the game's release set for March 2027, sharing a build with a large audience presents an unacceptable risk to the project's integrity.
This trend of preemptive cancellation is spreading across the industry. Recently, the developers of Drunken Goddess Reflux also scrapped a planned Steam Next Fest demo, fearing that AI tools could be used to replicate their game's content and presentation before the official debut.
Digital Sun Games expressed hope that increased public discussion regarding these cloning threats might eventually prompt platform holders to implement protective measures. The studio emphasized that they are not alone in their apprehension regarding the current landscape of game development and distribution.
