Key information
Digital Sun, the studio known for Moonlighter, has postponed its scheduled Steam playtest for the upcoming title ReVamp. The developer cited significant concerns regarding the rise of generative AI, which has been used to reverse-engineer and clone unreleased games before their official market debut.
ReVamp is described as a vampiric Tower Defensevania. Originally intended for a broader release near the end of October, the studio now plans to conduct a more restricted initial playtest through its Discord server to mitigate the risk of intellectual property theft.
The developer intends to roll out access in waves beginning on the 29th of October. A wider public playtest is currently targeted for January, while the full commercial launch of the game is set for the 25th of March, 2027.
Digital Sun is not alone in this struggle; other developers like Alliance Arts have also cancelled demos due to fears that AI tools could facilitate the rapid production of imitations. These industry-wide concerns highlight the growing impact of generative technology on game development cycles.
