Michael Douglas, who portrays Hank Pym in the Ant-Man film series, recently revealed his desire to depart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor disclosed during the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had requested his character be written out of the franchise.
The actor explained that he initially joined the superhero genre to explore new creative territory following health concerns. While he expressed appreciation for his colleagues, including Paul Rudd, he noted that his curiosity regarding the role has been satisfied.
Douglas stated that he specifically asked for his character to be killed off following the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp, but Marvel Studios declined the request. He remarked on the difficulty of leaving the franchise, describing the situation as being unable to exit once involved.
Looking toward the future, Douglas has informed the studio that he would only consider returning if his character is killed in a subsequent appearance. As a fourth Ant-Man film is not currently expected, speculation suggests a potential death for Hank Pym could occur in a different project, such as a future Avengers installment.
