NVIDIA faced significant public backlash following the announcement of DLSS 5 earlier this year, with early leaks and comparative videos fueling criticism regarding its visual impact. However, recent demonstrations in Hogwarts Legacy, which showcased more subtle adjustments, have prompted a shift in perspective for some industry figures, including The Astronauts founder Adrian Chmielarz.
Chmielarz, who previously rejected the technology, now describes it as "genuinely cool" when implemented with moderation. He noted that pushing the AI-based scaling to its maximum intensity results in an artificial, blurry appearance. According to the developer, the technology functions best when treated like a seasoning, where subtle application enhances detail without compromising the original visual integrity of the game.
The developer acknowledged his past criticism was perhaps overly harsh, drawing parallels to the initial skepticism surrounding DLSS 3 and its frame generation. While Chmielarz remains cautious about whether the technology is universally applicable to all titles, he expressed hope that DLSS 5 will follow a similar path of integration into the gaming landscape as previous iterations.
Following its debut in NBA 2K27 this past September, NVIDIA continues its rollout. Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to receive a DLSS 5 update on November 5, with Where Winds Meet expected to incorporate the technology by the end of that same month.
