Square Enix officially announced its upcoming board game, Mālum, scheduled for release around February 2027. The company launched a dedicated website for the title on October 16, 2026, to coincide with the reveal.
Mālum is a one-on-one competitive card game where players attempt to draw a specific player card from their opponent's hand. The game features a unique structure where players read through a short story and learn the rules as they open the product packaging.
Gameplay involves drawing and discarding a card from an opponent's hand, with the goal of securing three round victories. While drawing the target card wins the round, players must also resolve specific card effects that could potentially lead to an immediate loss. Each player chooses from five distinct decks.
Attendees of Game Market 2026 Autumn at Makuhari Messe can demo the game on October 18 at the Hobby Japan booth, number 25. Visitors who participate in the trial will receive an acrylic keychain while supplies last.
