The otome game Love and Deepspace has introduced an unexpected crossover event featuring Blade Runner 2049. While the collaboration brings new content to the romantic universe, it has sparked significant discussion among the player base regarding the game's history.
Fans have drawn parallels between the film's storyline, where the protagonist K loses his AI companion Joi after his emanator device is destroyed, and the canceled character Valko. Valko was previously removed by developer Infold just one week after his initial reveal following public controversy.
Some users on social media have suggested that the crossover feels ironic, noting that the loss of the character Valko mirrors the narrative of the film. Others speculated that the Blade Runner 2049 theme would have been a fitting environment for Valko, who was originally characterized as a tech CEO and hacker.
Despite the cancellation, supporters continue to advocate for Valko through petitions, boycotts, and charitable donations. Infold has not issued any official statements regarding the character since his removal. The current event, which offers film-inspired rewards, runs until November 5 and is likely tied to the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series.
