Love and Deepspace has introduced an unexpected crossover event featuring Blade Runner 2049. While the collaboration brings new content to the romantic simulation game, it has sparked significant discussion among the player base regarding the narrative parallels between the film's AI companion, Joi, and the previously canceled character, Valko.
Players have drawn comparisons between the destruction of K's emanator device in the film and the removal of Valko by developer Infold. Valko, who was initially presented as a potential sixth love interest, was canceled just one week after his reveal following community controversy. Some fans suggest the crossover's themes of corporate control mirror their own experience with the character's sudden disappearance.
Community members have noted that the tech-focused nature of the Blade Runner universe might have suited Valko, who was described as a hacker and CEO. Despite the cancellation, fans continue to advocate for his return through various methods, including charitable donations to wolf sanctuaries, the sponsorship of forests, and the organization of petitions and boycotts.
The crossover event is currently live and scheduled to conclude on November 5, offering players film-inspired rewards. This initiative is widely viewed as a promotional effort for the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series, which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on November 25. Infold has not provided any official statements regarding Valko since his initial removal.
