The Swedish game developer Liquid Swords has officially filed for bankruptcy, resulting in the loss of jobs for all 27 employees. Founder Christofer Sundberg confirmed the closure, noting that the studio's financial difficulties were known prior to the final decision.
The studio's title, Samson, saw a significant performance disparity between platforms. While the game launched on PC in April, it performed considerably better on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S following its September release. Despite this strong reception on consoles, the revenue was insufficient to sustain the company.
Reports indicate that staff members had gone without pay for two months leading up to the bankruptcy. However, these outstanding wage claims are expected to be covered by the Swedish government's wage guarantee scheme.
Regarding the future of Samson, Sundberg stated that the team is currently discussing potential solutions to maintain support for the game following the studio's liquidation. The long-term status of the title remains dependent on the outcome of these ongoing negotiations.
