The Swedish game developer Liquid Swords has officially filed for bankruptcy. This development follows the release of their open-world action title, Samson, and leaves approximately 30 employees without pay, according to reports from Break It and Videogames Chronicle.
Founded in 2020 by Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg, the studio launched Samson on Steam and the Epic Games Store in April, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in September. The title faced significant criticism regarding technical bugs and performance issues.
Sundberg previously acknowledged that the game was released with flaws, citing multiple contributing factors. While the studio had already initiated staff reductions in February 2025, the current bankruptcy filing leaves the future of both the company and the game uncertain.
The Swedish state is expected to provide compensation to the affected staff members. Although Liquid Swords is reportedly seeking a buyer to potentially continue operations, no sale or future support for the game has been confirmed at this time.
