Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche Studios and creator of Just Cause, has officially confirmed the closure of Liquid Swords. The studio, established in 2020, faced bankruptcy reports in October 2026, which Sundberg has now acknowledged.
The studio's open-world action title, Samson, released in April 2026, struggled critically. The PC version holds a Metascore of 51 based on 33 reviews, and Steam user feedback remains mixed.
Sundberg noted that while the console version released in September 2026 performed significantly better than the PC release, it was insufficient to sustain operations. He attributed the closure to a combination of market conditions and management errors, accepting personal responsibility for the outcome.
Despite the closure, discussions are underway to continue supporting Samson. Sundberg expressed his intent to establish a new studio, aiming to apply lessons learned to a more stable foundation suited to the current market.
