Lucasfilm Games is signaling a strategic pivot toward smaller-scale projects following the positive reception of Fuse Games' Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Bit Reactor's Star Wars: Zero Company. Douglas Reilly, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, stated that the company is no longer exclusively focused on blockbuster titles, noting that high-quality Star Wars experiences can originate from various developers beyond top-tier publishers.

These recent titles represent a departure from the franchise's previous reliance on guaranteed commercial concepts, such as live-service shooters and third-person action games, which characterized the long-standing partnership with EA. By supporting niche genres like racing and strategy, Lucasfilm aims to identify partners capable of delivering unique experiences within the Star Wars universe.

While Lucasfilm maintains a high quality bar, Reilly emphasized that the studio is actively exploring diverse project sizes. The success of these games is attributed to the expertise of the development teams, with Bit Reactor comprising former XCOM staff and Fuse Games founded by veterans with prior experience on the original Battlefront series.

Looking ahead, the Star Wars gaming landscape includes upcoming projects such as Fate of the Old Republic and a future entry in the Jedi series from Respawn. Additionally, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is slated to receive an update that will double the current multiplayer group size limits for podracing parties.
