Key information
A Reddit user named Kebakent has developed a Windows screensaver featuring the Steam Frame headset and its controllers. The project, which launched following the hardware's September release, displays the equipment bouncing around the screen.
The screensaver offers several customization options for users. According to the developer, the object size, movement speed, rotation speed, and brightness are all configurable. The project is free and open source under an MIT license, with a ready-to-run .scr file available on GitHub.
Regarding the assets used, Kebakent confirmed that Valve granted permission to utilize the artwork for this non-commercial project. This follows Valve's recent decision to release CAD files for the Steam Frame, Steam Controller, and Puck under a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike license, allowing for non-commercial hardware modifications.
While the screensaver provides a creative way to engage with the hardware's aesthetic, the Steam Frame remains priced at a starting cost of $1,059. Interested users can download the screensaver directly from the project's GitHub repository.
