Key information

Power supply manufacturer Super Flower has released the VGA 12+4 pin OCP Dongle, an accessory designed to monitor current across 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR connectors. The device aims to prevent hardware damage by detecting overcurrent conditions that can lead to melting components.

The dongle functions by tracking amperage across the six hot +12V pins. If any pin exceeds 9.5 A, the device provides an orange light and intermittent buzzing. Should a pin surpass 12 A, it triggers a red light and a continuous alarm. If the condition persists for 195 seconds, the system activates VGA Black Screen Protection to help users address connection issues.

Similar safety solutions exist, such as Cooler Master's GPU Shield Adapter Cable and MSI's GPU Safeguard+ power supplies. These products operate on comparable principles to alert users of potential power delivery failures.

Currently, the Super Flower OCP Dongle is reportedly only available in Taiwan as part of a power supply bundle, according to Uniko's Hardware. The necessity of such external monitoring devices remains a point of frustration for users concerned about the reliability of high-wattage graphics card connections.
