Arrowhead Game Studios announced that Helldivers 2 is shifting from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat effective October 20. The developer stated this change aims to enhance game integrity and address a recent increase in cheat modifications.

While the studio acknowledges that cosmetic and non-gameplay mods are part of PC gaming culture, it noted that these modifications may stop functioning due to the new security measures. Arrowhead clarified that it does not provide official modding support and cannot guarantee the safety or usability of third-party files.

The community response has been largely negative, with players expressing concerns over the impact on mods. Following the announcement, the game received 846 negative user reviews on Steam in a single day, significantly outpacing the 146 positive reviews recorded during the same period.

Arrowhead advised that mod usage remains at the player's own discretion. Users experiencing technical issues are encouraged to contact the official Zendesk support channel, though the studio indicated that the primary solution for broken mods is to wait for creators to release updates.
