Key information
Arrowhead is transitioning Helldivers 2 from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat, citing that the previous software's implementation was not as effective as intended. The developer aims to better protect the integrity of the Galactic War and ensure fair gameplay for all participants.
The studio plans to integrate additional security tools alongside the Epic-owned Easy Anti-Cheat to enhance overall protection. While the team acknowledges that mods are a significant part of PC gaming culture, they intend to specifically target modifications that provide unfair advantages or negatively impact the experiences of other players.
These security updates may cause some mods to stop functioning, including non-malicious cosmetic changes that might require updates from their creators. Arrowhead has encouraged players to contact their support staff via Zendesk if they believe the new anti-cheat software is incorrectly blocking non-destructive mods.
The transition to the new anti-cheat system is scheduled to occur on October 20th. This change follows reports that the game remains missing from Steam in the UK, a situation for which Sony is currently working with Valve to find a resolution.
