Developer Arrowhead has officially announced a transition for Helldivers 2, moving from the GameGuard anti-cheat system to Easy Anti-Cheat. This update, which takes effect on October 20, aims to bolster security and maintain game integrity.
The studio implemented this change to address a rise in unauthorized modifications that alter gameplay mechanics, such as pick-up rates. These mods have reportedly manipulated the game's narrative and negatively impacted the experience for other players.
While the switch to kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat will break mods that interfere with gameplay, Arrowhead notes that some cosmetic mods might remain functional if updated by their creators. The developer has not clarified specific policies regarding account bans for those using malicious software.
Despite the integration of kernel-level protection, the studio confirmed that Helldivers 2 remains compatible with the Valve Steam Deck and SteamOS. Furthermore, the update does not introduce new hardware requirements like secure boot or TPM.
